The central government has appointed Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan as a judge of the Supreme Court. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the decision on Instagram. Meghwal said the appointment followed consultations with the President and the Chief Justice of India, as per the Constitution.
The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by CJI Sanjiv Khanna, recommended Justice Manmohan’s elevation. The five-member collegium approved his name in a recent meeting.
Justice Manmohan’s Career Milestones
Justice Manmohan started his judicial career on March 13, 2008, as a judge of the Delhi High Court. On September 29, 2024, he became the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. He served as the Acting Chief Justice from November 9, 2023.
Born on December 17, 1962, in Delhi, he studied at Modern School and Hindu College, Delhi University. He earned his LLB from Delhi University in 1987 and became an advocate the same year. He practiced civil, criminal, constitutional, tax, and trademark law in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court.
A Legacy of Public Service
Justice Manmohan is the son of Jagmohan, a former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Jagmohan passed away on May 3, 2021.
The Justice Manmohan Supreme Court appointment reflects his decades of legal expertise and significant contributions to the judiciary.
