Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India in early 2025. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed the visit, which follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s formal invitation.

“Our leaders meet annually. This time, we will visit India,” Ushakov said during a press briefing. He assured that Russia will respond positively and finalize the dates early next year. The visit reinforces the deep India-Russia strategic cooperation amid ongoing global tensions.

Defence, Energy, and Trade Take Centre Stage

Putin’s visit will focus on expanding cooperation in defence, energy, and trade. The two leaders aim to build on discussions from recent meetings, including Modi’s visits to Russia in 2024.

During the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Modi called for peaceful resolutions to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “India supports peace and stability. We stand ready to assist with humanitarian efforts,” Modi stated during bilateral talks with Putin.

India Maintains Balanced Diplomacy

India’s non-alignment with the International Criminal Court (ICC) ensures Putin can travel freely without concerns over the ICC’s warrant. India’s status as a non-signatory to the Rome Statute allows the visit to proceed smoothly.

The visit reflects India’s balanced diplomacy. While navigating Western pressures, India continues to deepen ties with Russia. The leaders will focus on strengthening key areas, reaffirming the enduring partnership between New Delhi and Moscow.
