In a pointed comment on Delhi’s political leadership, Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena lauded Chief Minister Atishi, calling her ‘a thousand times better’ than her predecessor and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal.
His remarks came during the 7th Convocation of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) on Friday.
LG Saxena stated, “I am very happy that the Chief Minister of Delhi is a woman. I can say with confidence that she is a thousand times better than her predecessor.”
Taking to X, the LG described the convocation as a celebration of progress, emphasizing the pivotal role of women in driving technological advancements and fostering a more equitable future.
He further posted, “Presided over the 7th Convocation of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), in presence of Hon’ble Delhi CM @AtishiAAP and Prof. Yogesh Singh, VC, DU. Young bright women graduating today will be breaking barriers, redefining gender roles, and stepping into a rapidly changing world with technical expertise and determination. Their bright, young minds are a testament to the innovation and resilience needed to lead in this era of transformation.”
“These young women carry not only the promise of bright futures but also a new-found responsibility to contribute to their parents and families, society, and nation-building. This convocation marks a celebration of progress and the vital role women play in shaping a technologically advanced and equitable future. My good wishes to the graduating students and their parents, as indeed to the faculty and the management of IGDTUW,” the Lieutenant Governor added.

The Political Transition In Delhi
CM Atishi’s rise to the Chief Minister’s post marks a significant turning point for AAP.
Following his release from Tihar Jail last month, Arvind Kejriwal surprised many by resigning as Chief Minister. Kejriwal, who faced allegations in the Delhi excise policy case, stated he would not return to the role until AAP wins next year’s Assembly elections and the public grants him a ‘certificate of honesty’.
CM Atishi, previously a key minister in Kejriwal’s cabinet, took over the reins, becoming Delhi’s first woman Chief Minister.
Her leadership comes ahead of a critical electoral battle, with Assembly elections slated for 2025.
Upcoming Assembly Session
As Delhi’s political landscape continues to evolve, the Assembly will reconvene for its Winter Session from 29 November to 3 December, as per a notification issued by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
The session will likely address key legislative matters and set the tone for the upcoming election year.
The official notification read, “Members are informed that the sitting of the Third Part of Fifth Session of Seventh Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi will be reconvened on Friday, 29 November 2024, at 11 AM in the Assembly Hall, Old Secretariat, Delhi.”
