Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has ordered strict fire safety measures across hospitals in Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized that incidents like the one at Jhansi Medical College must never be repeated. The Deputy CM issued these instructions during a meeting with senior officials of the Health Department on Monday.
Mock Drills and Regular Equipment Checks
Pathak stressed the need for regular fire drills and checks of equipment in all hospitals. He instructed that medical officers conduct daily rounds with their expert teams to inspect hospital premises. He also emphasized that fire safety audits, electrical wiring, and hydrant pipes must be regularly checked to prevent any hazards. Emergency battery lights should be installed to deal with power outages during fires.
Fire Safety Measures for All Health Facilities
Pathak directed that trained fire safety workers be deployed in critical wards such as IT, ICU, and NICU. He called for proper entry and exit arrangements and the installation of exhaust fans to remove smoke. There should be no scrap on hospital premises, and junk should be removed immediately.
The Deputy CM also mandated that CHC-PHC centers must have adequate fire safety equipment. Fire alarms should be regularly checked, and fire safety protocols must be clearly displayed. Pathak further instructed that private hospitals undergo fire safety audits and mock drills. He warned that negligence would not be tolerated.
