The Telangana government has issued a notice to Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, instructing him not to perform any songs promoting alcohol or drugs. The notice also asks Dosanjh to avoid performing songs that glorify violence during his upcoming ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert in Hyderabad on Friday.
Additionally, the notice instructs Dosanjh to refrain from bringing children onto the stage during the performance, which will take place at the GMR Arena on Airport Approach Road.
The District Welfare Officer of the Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens in Rangareddy district served the notice on 7 November.
This action follows a complaint by Professor Panditrao Dharenavar from Chandigarh, who raised concerns about the content of Dosanjh’s performances.
Dharenavar submitted video evidence from Dosanjh’s concerts in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 26 & 27 October, where he allegedly performed songs with themes promoting substances and violence.
The notice stated, “We are issuing this notice in advance to deter promoting alcohol/drugs/violence through songs in your live show.”
The event organizers and the concert manager have also received instructions to ensure that the sound levels do not exceed the permitted decibel limits.
“According to the World Health Organization, adults should not exposed to sounds with a peak sound pressure level above 140 decibels. For children, the level is reduced to 120 decibels. Therefore, children should not used on stage during your live show where peak sound pressure is above 120 decibels,” the notice added.
The notice further read, “Your concert guidelines allow children under 13 years of age. Concert guidelines also say that concerts may include loud sounds and flashing lights. Both loud music and flashing lights are harmful to children.”
