On Monday, India has expressed strong condemnation following a violent incident that occurred at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario, where an Indian consular camp was attacked on Sunday.
The incident, which has raised serious concerns, took place near Toronto and involved a significant disruption at the temple.
Randhir Jaiswal, the Official Spokesperson for the Indian government, addressed media inquiries regarding the violence, stating, “We condemn the acts of violence perpetrated by extremists and separatists at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario yesterday.”
He further emphasized the need for the Government of Canada to protect all places of worship from attacks and to prosecute those engaging in violence. The spokesperson expressed ongoing concern for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated, “The outreach of our Consular officers to provide services to Indians and Canadian citizens alike will not deterred by intimidation, harassment, and violence.”
The attack has sparked significant backlash both within Canada and internationally.
Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre condemned the incident as ‘completely unacceptable’, reflecting widespread disapproval of the violent acts.
Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya described the attack as crossing a ‘red line’ by Khalistani extremists. He highlighted the concerning rise of violent extremism in Canada.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also weighed in on the situation, denouncing the attack on the Hindu Sabha Temple. He emphasized the fundamental importance of religious freedom, asserting that every Canadian has the right to practice their faith safely and without fear.
