Four Security Personnel Injured In Ongoing Srinagar Gunfight; Two Militants Killed In Anantnag Operation

This incident marks the first such gunfight in downtown Srinagar in over ten years. Once a separatist stronghold, the area was considered clear of militancy, but this clash challenges that assumption

Srinagar

Two CRPF troopers and two policemen were injured on Saturday in an ongoing encounter between holed-up terrorists and security forces in Srinagar’s Khanyar area. Officials said the operation began after intelligence inputs indicated terrorist presence in the area. Security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) and were met with gunfire from the terrorists as they approached, triggering the encounter.

This incident marks the first such gunfight in downtown Srinagar in over ten years. Once a separatist stronghold, the area was considered clear of militancy, but this clash challenges that assumption.

Separate Encounter in Anantnag Ends in Two Militant Deaths

In another operation, security forces killed two terrorists near Halkan Gali in Anantnag’s Shangus-Larnoo area. Meanwhile, on Friday, terrorists shot two non-local laborers, Sanjay and Usman from Uttar Pradesh, in Mazhama village of Budgam district. They were hospitalized and are reported in stable condition.

Recent Surge in Terrorist Attacks Across Kashmir Valley

The valley has seen a rise in attacks recently. Last month, terrorists killed six infrastructure project workers and a doctor in Gagangir, where a tunnel project aims to provide an all-weather road to Sonamarg. Additionally, three soldiers and two porters were killed in an attack in Baramulla’s Botapathri area.

The ongoing violence underscores renewed security challenges in Kashmir despite efforts to curb militancy in recent years.
