The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking re-election for 20 assembly seats in Haryana. Additionally, the court declined to halt the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Deputy Government of Haryana.
During the proceedings, Advocate Narendra Mishra, representing the petitioners, requested an expedited hearing before the bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The Chief Justice cautioned the petitioner, stating, “You want us to stop the swearing-in of the elected government. You are under our scrutiny.” He added that the court could impose a fine for filing such a petition.

The bench, which included Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, questioned the basis for stopping an elected government from taking the oath of office. The petition was filed by Priya Mishra and Vikas Bansal, alleging discrepancies with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in 20 constituencies. They claimed that some EVMs operated at 99% battery capacity while others functioned at only 80%.
The petition referenced a complaint made by the Congress party to the Election Commission of India, highlighting that similar discrepancies were noted in EVMs at the same polling stations. It further stated that Congress candidates raised these concerns with election officials but received inadequate responses.
