A 22 year old man lost his life to a gunshot following a violence erupted during Goddess Durga procession, when the idol was taken for immersion.
Notably, the family members of the victim refused to perform the last rites of the dead.
The incident took place near Maharajganj Bazar in Mansoor Village of Bahraich.
The violence erupted following the loud music before a residence of a particular community. The alleged communal violence took place and nearly half a dozen people sustained injury in stone-pelting and clash.
Ram Gopal Mishra, a resident of Rehua Mansoor village was shot while participating in Durga procession. He was taken to a hospital but later died during treatment, according to a family member.

The tension in the area escalated following the death. The incident led to the cancellation of similar events in Fakharpur town and other location.
Taking to microblogging platform X, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said those responsible will not be spared. He further said that Idol immersion must continue.

Violence is politically motivated-Rajiv Chandrashekhar
BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday reacted to the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man during the Durga idol immersion in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich and described the flare-up as ‘politically motivated.’
Notably 5 PAC has been deployed in the violence hit area.
Authorities have shut the internet facility in violence affected area. On the other hand family of deceased is now ready to cremate the dead.
