Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a stern message to government officials during a meeting with Union ministers and secretaries. He emphasized the need for decisive action against underperformers and corrupt officers to improve governance and efficiency.

Evaluation and Action on Under-Performers

PM Modi instructed Union Secretaries to rigorously assess government employees and take appropriate action. He cited Fundamental Rule 56 (j) of the CCS (Pension) Rules, which allows forced retirement of unfit government servants. The Prime Minister stressed that those who fail to perform must be dealt with firmly, including early retirement with compensation.

Focus on Accountability and People’s Issues

Modi urged officials to ensure swift resolution of public grievances, advocating a ‘Janta Darbar’ model where Secretaries could address complaints weekly. The Prime Minister also noted that good governance is recognized by the public, referencing the BJP’s success in recent elections. Over 500 officers have already faced compulsory retirement under this policy.
