Ratan Tata, the esteemed industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away late Wednesday at the age of 86. His body will be made available for public viewing at the NCPA Lawns in Nariman Point, allowing mourners to pay their respects before a state funeral scheduled for the evening at Worli Crematorium, according to government and Tata Group officials.

The Maharashtra government has declared a day of official mourning in remembrance of Tata, whose death has cast a shadow over India’s corporate landscape.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government buildings, and there will be no official entertainment events today.

Ratan Tata died at Breach Candy Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for age-related health issues since Monday. In a statement expressing their profound loss, Tata’s family shared that his mortal remains would be taken to the NCPA Lawns around 10:30 a.m. for public homage.

Mourners can enter through Gate 3 and exit via Gate 2; however, parking is not available, and local transport is advised.

Later in the day, at approximately 4 pm, Tata’s body will be transported from Nariman Point to the Worli Crematorium for final rites.

There, it will be draped in the national flag and honored with a police gun salute before being consigned to the flames, as confirmed by the family.
