Eight foreign tourists were injured on Wednesday morning, in a Bihar road accident, when their tempo traveller was struck by a truck in Jehanabad district.

The accident occurred around 7:30 AM on the Patna-Gaya four-lane National Highway 83, near Salempur village, under the Kadauna police station. A speeding truck collided with the tempo traveller from behind, causing the vehicle to overturn and fall into a pit.

Police officers from the Kadauna station quickly responded to the scene. They transported the injured to Sadar Hospital in Jehanabad. Of the eight injured, three were later transferred to Patna for more advanced medical care. Authorities confirmed that all the tourists are stable, alleviating initial concerns.

The tempo traveller was carrying around 25 tourists from Patna, who were on their way to Bodh Gaya. Preliminary reports suggest that the injured tourists might be Buddhist monks, based on their attire. However, communication has been challenging due to language barriers. It has been confirmed that they are staying at a hotel in Patna.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Kadauna stated, “We have registered an FIR under relevant sections related to rash and negligent driving. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the truck driver responsible for the accident.” The police have obtained the vehicle’s registration number and are actively investigating to trace both the vehicle and the driver.

Bodh Gaya is a major religious destination for Buddhists globally, attracting numerous domestic and international tourists each year who visit the Maha Bodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
