Delhi Coaching Institute
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted its sealed report to the Delhi High Court in the case involving the deaths of three students in a coaching centre accident in Old Rajendra Nagar. The court granted the CBI more time to complete its investigation while directing the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to oversee the probe.
Court Acknowledges Gravity of the Case
During the hearing, the Delhi High Court labeled the case as “very serious and rare.” The next hearing is scheduled for November 18. Earlier, the court rejected a petition that sought to prevent the CBI from filing a charge sheet. This petition was filed by the father of one of the deceased students, Navin Delvin.
CBI Accusations Against Coaching Centre Owner
The CBI revealed that the owner of Rao IAS Academy had illegally used the basement, leading to unsafe conditions. The High Court had transferred the case to the CBI, which charged the accused with criminal negligence, dereliction of duty, and corruption.
Concerns Over MCD’s Inaction
The petitioner’s lawyer raised concerns about safety issues in Delhi, citing the widespread operation of libraries in unsafe basements. He criticized the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for failing to act, alleging that many current commissioners own properties in the area, contributing to the inaction.
The court highlighted the need to look at the larger issue surrounding such incidents.
