The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking an FIR against Jagadguru Rambhadracharya for his controversial remarks regarding Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram. Justice Saurabh Srivastava ruled that the petition lacked merit.
Background of the Controversy
Rambhadracharya faced backlash after allegedly making remarks about a specific caste in Bihar during a public event. He claimed that individuals who do not say “Jai Shri Ram” belong to a certain caste. These comments sparked significant resentment among supporters of both the SP and BSP, prompting petitioner Prakash Chandra to seek legal action against him.
The district court had previously rejected Chandra’s application, citing maintainability without a hearing. Chandra challenged this decision in the Allahabad High Court.
During the hearing, Chandra, a resident of Prayagraj’s Yamunanagar area, urged the court to register a complaint against Rambhadracharya. However, additional advocate generals Mahesh Chandra Chaturvedi and Vineet Sankalp defended Rambhadracharya, asserting that the allegations were unfounded.
The court ultimately deemed the petition baseless and declined to proceed with the case.
