Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu will visit India from October 6 to 10, following an official invitation from President Droupadi Murmu. This marks Muizzu’s first bilateral visit since taking office.

High-Level Meetings Scheduled

During his visit, Muizzu will meet with President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior Indian officials. His office stated that the president aims to enhance bilateral ties with countries vital to Maldives’ development and growth. Discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation and deepening the longstanding relationship between the two nations.

Muizzu previously attended PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi on June 9, 2024, and met him at the COP28 summit in Dubai on December 1, 2023.

Business Engagements Planned in Major Cities

The Maldives President will also visit Mumbai and Bengaluru with a high-level delegation, engaging in business activities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the importance India places on its relationship with the Maldives. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that the visit would enhance cooperation and promote robust people-to-people ties between the two countries.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had previously visited the Maldives in August, marking his first trip to the nation since resuming office in June. Despite some strains in relations last year, India has continued to provide significant development assistance to the Maldives, benefiting many citizens.
