Officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating the harrowing rape and murder of a junior doctor from RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata have expressed concerns regarding the thoroughness of the autopsy and inquest reports.
They believe that the reports may not fully reflect the extent of injuries inflicted on the victim’s body.
Sources indicate that both the inquest and autopsy reports primarily documented external injuries on the front of the victim’s body, while failing to account for any injuries on the back.
This omission has led investigators to suspect the integrity of the reports and question whether they aimed to obscure crucial evidence.
According to the reports, the victim sustained 15 external injuries alongside nine internal injuries.
However, the lack of documentation regarding back injuries has prompted officials to question whether someone intentionally limited the findings to downplay the severity of the attack.
Compounding these concerns, allegations have emerged about significant procedural irregularities in the autopsy process, which took only 70 minutes to complete after sunset on August 9, shortly before staff discovered the body in a seminar room on the hospital campus.
Investigators noted that the Judicial Magistrate had only 20 minutes to examine the body before preparing the inquest report, a timeframe deemed alarmingly brief given the gravity of the case.
Sources suggest that the rapid autopsy may have been conducted to facilitate the cremation of the body that very night, thereby reducing the likelihood of a second post-mortem that could potentially unveil more evidence.
The CBI is now delving deeper into the circumstances surrounding the investigation, as doubts mount regarding the handling of the case and the initial findings.
