ANS Prasad, spokesperson for the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has formally requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ban Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s election campaign, citing concerns over threats to national unity and social harmony.
In a statement, Prasad claimed that Gandhi’s “baseless allegations and insults” have hurt the sentiments of farmers in Haryana, violating election rules for political gain. He asserted, “The Election Commission of India must ban Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s illegal election campaign, which threatens India’s unity and social harmony.”
Prasad emphasized that Gandhi’s actions undermine national integrity and social cohesion, calling for immediate action from the ECI.
He accused the Congress leader of making derogatory remarks about India and its people while abroad, and stated that Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP, and industrialists with unfounded accusations.

During an election rally in Haryana, Prasad alleged that Gandhi incited farmers and made false claims, violating ECI guidelines. “His hate speech undermines Indian democracy and threatens peace and social harmony,” Prasad said, demanding swift intervention from the ECI.
The BJP spokesperson highlighted past controversies surrounding Gandhi’s comments, particularly those about Sikhs, which ignited widespread outrage. He warned that Gandhi’s attempts to confuse and divide communities pose a significant threat to India’s social fabric.
In contrast, Prasad praised Prime Minister Modi’s government for focusing on national welfare initiatives, including affordable housing, free medical treatment, water connections, and banking access.
He stated that these efforts align with the ideals of prominent social reformers such as Saint Ravidas, Kabir Das, Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai Phule, and Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Prasad concluded that Gandhi’s rhetoric demands immediate intervention, arguing that his unlawful actions warrant severe consequences to protect India’s unity and social harmony.
He also mentioned that the Nashik district police in Maharashtra had summoned Gandhi in a defamation case related to objectionable remarks about Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
The BJP leader urged the Election Commission to act decisively against Rahul Gandhi to uphold the law and safeguard India’s integrity.
