A Karkardooma court acquitted Mittan Singh and Johnny Kumar, a father-son duo accused of setting a mosque and houses on fire during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. The court gave them the benefit of the doubt after key witnesses turned hostile.
FIR Filed by Victim Alleging Arson and Loot
The case was based on a complaint by Mohammad Munajir, who alleged that a mob set Fatima Masjid and nearby houses on fire. He claimed his home was looted and destroyed. Charges were framed against Singh and Kumar in December 2021.
Witnesses Turn Hostile, Police Testimony Questioned
The court observed that victims and public witnesses denied identifying the accused. Statements from two police officers were questioned, with the court suggesting that their testimonies might have been influenced after the accused were in custody.
