Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, addressing a rally in J&K’s Surankote on Monday, claimed that the Congress party has “psychologically defeated” Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at a joint NC-Congress election campaign, Gandhi criticized the BJP and RSS for spreading hatred and dividing communities.

“The BJP and RSS thrive on spreading hatred and violence,” he said. “They divide brothers and communities. We, however, spread love. During our Bharat Yatra, we opened shops of love across India.” He added that Modi, once a dominant figure, is no longer the same, saying, “We have broken him psychologically by defeating his hatred with our love.”

Promises on J&K Statehood

Gandhi vowed to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, accusing the government of stripping democratic rights from the people. “India has never downgraded a state into a Union Territory before. We will exert enough pressure to ensure the restoration of your statehood,” he said.

He also expressed concerns over decisions being made from Delhi instead of J&K, adding, “They divide people based on region, language, and community, while we stand for unity.”

Criticism of Job Situation

Rahul Gandhi criticized Modi’s government for favoring billionaires while ignoring the employment crisis. “Modi helps a few billionaires, waiving off ₹16 lakh crore in loans. Small industries are destroyed, and jobs are scarce.”

National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah accompanied Gandhi, calling him the “future Prime Minister of India.” Abdullah emphasized the joint NC-Congress fight against BJP’s divisive politics, urging voters to back Congress candidates in the upcoming elections.
