Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a significant rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar on Thursday, asserting that only the BJP can restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
In his speech, PM Modi emphasized, “We have stated in Parliament that we will restore statehood to J&K, and I want to tell you that only a BJP-led government can achieve this.”
Opening his address in Kashmiri, the Prime Minister expressed his delight at witnessing the enthusiasm among the youth and the satisfaction on the faces of the elders. He highlighted the recent local elections, stating, “You celebrated the festival of democracy with over 80% voting in Kishtwar and significant turnout in other districts. This proves that the aspirations of the people have touched new heights.”

Modi criticized the three prominent political families—Congress, NC, and PDP—holding them responsible for the region’s struggles. He accused them of spreading fear and nepotism, asserting, “These families believed it was their birthright to come to power and exploit the people. Today, J&K no longer wants to remain in their clutches; our youth are challenging them.”
The Prime Minister reflected on the past, stating that during the rule of these families, many youths suffered without educational opportunities. He noted, “During days of terrorism, youth were unable to get an education. This suffering was not due to their failure but due to the failures of these political families.”
Modi pledged to free J&K from terrorism and emphasized the government’s commitment to local youth employment and education. He stated, “In the last seven years, we re-admitted 50,000 school children who had dropped out. We opened new schools and colleges and increased seats for medical education. Our youth are now empowered.”
He also discussed the cultural and social changes in the region, highlighting that places previously unsafe are now accessible. “People can now play and roam in Lal Chowk until late hours. This change has not been brought about by Modi, but by you,” he declared.
Addressing the historical expulsion of Kashmiri Pandits, Modi affirmed their integral role in Kashmiri culture, stating, “These three families divided people; we aim to unite them.”
He concluded by discussing the potential benefits of improved connectivity for farmers and the tourism sector, stating that the G-20 event and other international activities held in the region showcased real ‘Kashmiriyat’. Modi urged the audience to reject the old order that had caused so much turmoil.
If elected, Modi promised increased financial support for farmers and families through various government schemes, aiming for comprehensive development in Jammu and Kashmir.
