RG Kar Case: People Offers Food, Water To Protesting Doctors

Bio-toilets and temporary washrooms have also been set up for the convenience of the protesters, especially women

RG Kar Case

Junior doctors, protesting outside Swastha Bhavan over the rape and murder of a fellow doctor from RG Kar Medical College, have gained widespread public support. Since Tuesday night, people and community organizations have brought food and water to the protest site. This support ensures the junior doctors can continue their sit-in protest.

Bio-toilets and temporary washrooms have also been set up for the convenience of the protesters, especially women. Students from Jadavpur University delivered a truck full of food and water.

WBJDF Thanks Public for Support

The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF), leading the protest, thanked the public for their overwhelming support. They issued a statement expressing gratitude for the food and supplies provided. “We have enough stock for now and will reach out if needed,” the WBJDF said.

The protest continues despite a Supreme Court deadline asking the doctors to return to work by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Doctors Reject Government Talks

On Tuesday evening, the protesting doctors rejected the state government’s request for a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The government had invited a small delegation of doctors to discuss the issue at Nabanna.

Thousands of doctors, students, and nurses marched towards Swastha Bhavan in a show of unity. When stopped at the entrance, they began a sit-in demonstration, which continues.
