Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly announced on Tuesday that Ottawa has suspended approximately 30 existing permits for arms sales to Israel. The move aligns with Canada’s policy prohibiting the use of Canadian-made arms and components in the Gaza Strip, regardless of how they are transported to Israel.
Joly emphasized that the Canadian government remains firm on its stance: “We will not have any form of arms, or parts of arms, be sent to Gaza. How they’re being sent and where they’re being sent is irrelevant.”

The suspension of these permits follows Ottawa’s decision in January to stop approving new arms permits for Israel, although previously approved permits remained valid.
In addition to suspending arms permits, Canada is also blocking a contract with the US government that would have sent Quebec-made ammunition to the Israeli Defense Forces. This contract, which Washington announced several weeks ago, is now on hold.
