New Delhi, Aug 30: Leading budget carrier IndiGo announced on Friday that it will resume operations from Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport starting September 2.
Flight operations at Terminal 1, primarily used for domestic flights, were suspended in June after a roof collapse that resulted in one death and eight injuries. IndiGo will operate 35 departures daily from Terminal 1 once it reopens.
IndiGo’s Commitment to Passenger Experience
IndiGo emphasized its commitment to providing affordable, on-time, courteous, and hassle-free travel. The airline stated that proactive measures have been taken to inform passengers about the transition to Terminal 1.
IndiGo clarified that domestic flights with numbers 2000-2999 will operate from Terminal 2, flights numbered 5000-5999 from Terminal 3, and all other flights from Terminal 1.
Terminal 1 Ready After Expansion
Earlier this month, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), managed by GMR Airport Infrastructure, announced that the newly-expanded Terminal 1 would be operational from August 17. DIAL worked closely with IndiGo and SpiceJet to prepare for the shift of flight operations back to Terminal 1.
The metal canopy over Terminal 1 collapsed on June 28 due to heavy rainfall, leading to the temporary suspension of operations and the transfer of flights to Terminals 2 and 3.
IndiGo recently reported a net profit of Rs 2,728 crore for the April-June quarter, a decrease of 11.7% from Rs 3,090.6 crore in the same quarter last year. Despite the profit drop, operational revenue increased by 17.3% to Rs 19,570.7 crore in Q1 FY25 compared to Rs 16,683.1 crore in the same quarter the previous year.
