Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Requests Swift Return Of Bodies From Fatal Nepal Bus Accident

In the wake of a tragic bus accident in Nepal that claimed 26 lives from Jalgaon district, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has called for immediate action to repatriate the bodies of the victims. The Chief Minister contacted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who promptly ensured the deceased would be returned to Maharashtra.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office, Home Minister Shah assured that an Indian Air Force (IAF) plane would transport the bodies from Nepal to Nashik. The plan is for the bodies to arrive in Nashik on Saturday.

Chief Minister Shinde has been in regular contact with both state and central officials to monitor the ongoing relief efforts. He noted, “Home Minister Amit Shah responded to my request without delay for the transportation of the deceased. He assured me of full support and has appointed a special officer to facilitate the coordination.”

Bodies From Nepal To Gorakhpur

The authorities will first fly the bodies from Nepal to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and then transport them to Nashik by Air Force aircraft.

The incident involved a group of 104 pilgrims from Rangaon, Pimpalgaon, and Talvel villages in Bhusawal taluka, who were traveling to Nepal from August 16 to 28. One of their three luxury buses veered off course and plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Nepal’s Tanahun district on Friday.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis further confirmed that the state government has been actively engaging with the Nepal Embassy. The Collector of Jalgaon is coordinating with the Collector of Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, and officials will dispatch a team, including a sub-divisional officer and a deputy superintendent of police, to the Nepal border.

Moreover, Fadnavis also mentioned that efforts are underway to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured and to coordinate the return of the deceased with the help of both the Uttar Pradesh and Nepal governments. The Maharashtra Disaster Management Unit, along with Ministers Girish Mahajan and Anil Patil, is actively leading the ongoing response efforts.
