As the Budget Session of Parliament begins on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has urged all political parties to work together and engage in constructive dialogue.

In a statement posted on X, Speaker Birla emphasized the importance of collaboration, saying, “The Budget Session of the 18th Lok Sabha starts today. I hope all Members of Parliament will cooperate and participate in meaningful discussions. Our collective efforts will contribute significantly to the nation’s progress.”

The Budget Session, which is likely to continue until 12 August, will commence with the presentation of the Economic Survey by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

On the following day, the Finance Minister will introduce the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25.

In addition to the central budget, the session will include the presentation of the budget for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on 23 July.

The government plans to introduce and seek passage for six key bills, including:

  • Finance (No.2) Bill, 2024
  • Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024
  • Boilers Bill, 2024
  • The Bhartiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024
  • The Coffee (Promotion and Development) Bill, 2024
  • Rubber (Promotion and Development) Bill, 2024

Parliament will also address three significant financial matters:

  • The general discussion on the Central Budget 2024-25,
  • The discussion and voting on the demands for grants for 2024-25, and
  • The introduction, consideration, and passing of the related Appropriation Bill.

Furthermore, discussions and voting will also cover the demands for grants for the Union Territory of J&K for the 2024-25 financial year, along with the introduction, consideration, and passing of the associated Appropriation Bill.

The session promises to be a pivotal period for legislative and financial discussions, with a focus on advancing key bills and ensuring effective management of the nation’s fiscal resources.
