Adding to the list of Bridges and Culverts crumble in Bihar, a culvert in Saharsa district of Bihar fell down after it got submerged due to the floodwaters from the Kosi River. The infrastructure failure in Bihar has been the talk of the town as this collapse marks the 15th such incidents in last 23 days. The culvert was built in 2005.
The event happened on Ward Number 17 Road, which runs under the Mahishi block and connects Kundah Panchayat and Balia Simar Panchayat.
The strain of the floodwaters caused the culvert, which was situated on the banks of the Kosi River, to collapse.
Earlier, infrastructure failure in Bihar sparked a political row.
A large number of individuals from more than a dozen villages have been impacted. These villagers are still unconnected from the district and block offices. People are expressing concern over the issue, as multiple wedding festivities are planned.
“Around 10 weddings are planned in my village. My daughter is also getting married. I don’t understand how the wedding procession will proceed. The administration should pay attention to our sufferings. The culvert had become very weak and couldn’t withstand the pressure of the water,” said Rajiv Kumar, a villager.
Chote Prasad, a Junior Engineer of the Rural Works Department, said: “The culvert was constructed in 2005 under the MLA fund. It collapsed due to the strong flow of floodwaters from the Kosi River. Traffic has been disrupted, but it will be restored soon.”
