The Ipsos ‘What Worries the World’ survey for June 2024 reveals that 69 percent of surveyed Indians believe their country is moving in the right direction. 79 percent of respondents in Singapore and 70 percent in Indonesia share this sentiment.

This optimism contrasts sharply with the global average, where only 38 percent of citizens hold a positive outlook on their country’s direction.

The survey, conducted between 24 May and 7 June 2024, involved 25,520 adults from 29 countries.

In countries like Australia, Belgium, Brazil, and Canada, approximately 1,000 individuals participated in the survey. In India, Argentina, Chile, Indonesia, and Israel, among others, the survey included around 500 participants.

Despite the optimistic outlook, the survey however identified inflation and unemployment as the top concerns for urban Indians, with 38 percent and 35 percent of respondents citing these issues, respectively.

Notably, there has been a decrease in anxiety levels compared to the previous survey, with worry about inflation dropping by 3 percent and unemployment by a significant 9 percent.

Meanwhile, Globally, the survey painted a less optimistic picture.

Inflation (33 percent) and crime and violence (30 percent) were the top concerns, followed by poverty and social inequality (29 percent), unemployment (27 percent), and financial and political corruption (25 percent).
