Uttar Pradesh government has formed a three member judicial commission to investigate Hathras stampede incident. The Judicial Inquiry Commission headed by retired Justice Brijesh Kumar Srivastava of Allahabad High Court is poised to probe the July 2 catastrophic event that killed 121 people.
Late on Wednesday night, Governor Anandiben Patel released a notification in this regard.
Hemant Rao, a retired IAS officer, and Bhavesh Kumar Singh, a retired IPS officer, are to probe the incident. Lucknow will serve as the commission’s headquarters.
Within two months after the notification date, the commission is expected to conclude its inquiry.

The commission will look into the suggested topics and report back to the state government.
The commission will also look into if the occurrence was caused by another premeditated criminal conduct or an accident.
The commission will also look into matters pertaining to crowd management and law and order arrangements made by the police and government during the event. It will also examine the events and causes that preceded the occurrence.
In addition, the panel will offer suggestions on how to stop similar occurrences in the future.
Notably, on July 2, a stampede incident took place in a religious congregation in Hathras. The horrific incident claimed 121 lives injuring several. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had visited the incident site yesterday, leading to formation of commission to investigate the Hathras stampede incident.
