Maha Kumbh

With the upcoming Maha Kumbh festival expected to draw millions of devotees, authorities in Prayagraj are intensifying their efforts to ensure smooth traffic management during the massive congregation.

One of the key strategies pursuing is to establish multiple alternative routes to handle the anticipated influx of pilgrims.

Officials particularly focus on easing congestion around Bamhrauli, a crucial entry point for many attendees.

In a recent development, negotiations are underway with Air Force officials to secure an exclusive alternate route designated specifically for the main bathing festival.

This initiative marks a critical step forward, as discussed during a significant meeting held at the Police Line on Wednesday.

The meeting, attended by senior officials including ADG Zone Bhanu Bhaskar, Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba, and IG Range Prem Kumar, aimed to foster coordination among various stakeholders and finalize plans to mitigate traffic congestion.

According to sources, 38 junctions are currently under construction to serve as control points for managing traffic and facilitating necessary stops for passengers.

The police have tasked themselves with planning several alternative routes to effectively handle the heavy crowds expected during the festival.

Furthermore, efforts are underway to secure approval for an alternative route from the Air Force stationed near Bamrauli, which will be managed by the Army and exclusively opened for the main bathing festival of Maha Kumbh.

However, formal approval for this alternate route is still pending.

In addition to these traffic management strategies, the Public Works Department (PWD) has presented plans for designated parking areas, while the Water Police have detailed their operational preparedness.

Railway officials have also briefed the gathering on special train services scheduled from nine stations to accommodate pilgrims and visitors during the event.
