More than 40 Indians were killed and many others injured in Mangaf, Kuwait after a fire overtook a multi-story building housing foreign workers, most of whom were Indians.
Kirtivardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, left for Kuwait today to oversee assistance to the injured and to coordinate with local authorities for early repatriation of the mortal remains of the victims.
Indian Embassy in Kuwait tweeted, “On the directions of PM @narendramodi ji, MoS @KVSinghMPGonda arrived in Kuwait and immediately rushed to Jaber hospital to ascertain well being of injured Indians in the fire incident yesterday. He met the 6 injured admitted at the hospital. All of them are safe”, through its official ‘X’ handle.

“He assured them of the government of India’s all assistance. The Minister is in Kuwait to oversee the early repatriation of mortal remains of those who have died and meet those injured in this unfortunate incident”, the embassy added in its tweet.
The Kuwaiti government has demanded the arrest of the building’s owner and others, citing negligence as a cause of catastrophe. The authorities blamed the fire on greed.
DNA testing is underway to identify the victims.
