Sardar Sangram Singh Scindia is the secretary of Devasthan Trust. He told that according to tradition, the ashes are immersed in Sangam ten days after the burial. Accordingly, he has brought all the ashes.
He said that he reached Gwalior Kothi in Rambagh at around 10 in the morning. The urn containing ashes was kept there for people to see for about an hour. After that, the process of immersing it in the Sangam was completed by performing the puja as per the rituals. On the banks of the Sangam, Pt. Shyam Ji Tiwari completed the process of puja etc.
It may be recalled that Madhavi Raje Scindia, wife of the late Madhavrao Scindia and mother of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, died at AIIMS, New Delhion May 15. The ‘Rajmata’ of the erstwhile Gwalior royal family was suffering from pneumonia and sepsis and was being treated at the hospital for the last two months.
Where her condition had been extremely critical for the past two weeks.She took her last breath at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. Madhavi Raje’s last rites was performed at Amma Maharaj ki Chhatri in Gwalior.
Madhavi Raje was a prominent face in the social and cultural realm of Gwalior, and chaired 24 trusts dedicated to areas like education and healthcare. She also served as head of the board of governors of the Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, set up to educate girls.
After Madhavrao’s death in a plane crash in 2001, Madhavi Raje established the Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia II gallery in the palace museum in memory of her husband.
Born into the erstwhile Rana dynasty of Nepal, Madhavi Raje married Madhavrao in 1966 and thus became part of the Scindia erstwhile royal family of Gwalior. The couple had two children, Jyotiraditya, the current Union Minister of Civil Aviation, and Chitrangada Singh.
