Libyan Prime Minister Home Struck With RPGs; No Casualties Reported

A Libyan minister said that Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah’s mansion was hit with rocket-propelled grenades on Sunday, but there were no casualties.

According to the minister, the attack caused relatively minor damage. The minister has not provided any additional information.

Two individuals reported hearing enormous explosions near the sea in Tripoli’s upscale Hay Andalus area, which is home to PM Dbeibah’s residence.

A resident reported that after the massive explosions, substantial security forces were deployed in the vicinity.

Libya has seen little peace or stability since a NATO-backed rebellion in 2011, and the country was divided into eastern and western groups in 2014, with rival administrations administering each area.

Dbeibah’s Government of National Unity was established through a U.N.-backed procedure in 2021, but the eastern parliament stopped accepting its authority at the end of that year following a failed attempt to hold national elections, resulting in a lengthy political gridlock.

Early in March, three prominent leaders agreed on the necessity of forming a new unified government to oversee long-delayed elections.

Dbeibah has pledged that he will not hand over power to a new government without holding nationwide elections.
