Liquor Businessman Shot Dead in Murthal: Gangster Himanshu Claims Responsibility

DCP Rajpurohit disclosed that seven investigative teams have been formed to pursue the case, ensuring swift action to apprehend the assailants.

In a shocking development, a liquor businessman, recently released on bail, was fatally shot in broad daylight outside a dhaba in Murthal, located in Haryana’s Sonepat district on Sunday. The chilling incident was captured by a nearby CCTV camera.

Sonepat’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Gaurav Rajpurohit, confirmed the victim’s identity as Sunder Malik, aged 36, hailing from Sargathal village but residing in Sonepat. The attack occurred around 8:30 am while Malik was parking his car in a designated parking area, according to the DCP.

DCP Rajpurohit disclosed that seven investigative teams have been formed to pursue the case, ensuring swift action to apprehend the assailants. Additionally, efforts are underway to contact Malik’s family to delve into his criminal history, as he had been previously involved in cases related to murder, attempted murder, and other criminal offenses. Despite rumors of a gang conflict, DCP Rajpurohit dismissed such claims.

Notorious gangster Himanshu alias Bhau has asserted responsibility for the murder. Last year in August, Interpol issued a Red Notice against Bhau, who is believed to be residing outside of India. In a similar development, in July 2023, a Red Notice was also issued against Bhau’s associate Sahil Kumar by the international police organization. A ‘Red Notice’ signifies a global appeal to law enforcement agencies to locate and provisionally arrest the individual, pending extradition or other legal procedures.

Sunday’s shooting marks the fifth such incident within less than two months in Sonepat, Jhajjar, and Rohtak districts. Sadly, four individuals, including Malik, the most recent victim, have lost their lives in these violent encounters.

On February 25, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) state unit chief Nafe Singh Rathee, along with Jai Kishan, a party worker, was gunned down in Jhajjar’s Bahadurgarh area. Gangster Kapil Sangwan has claimed responsibility for that attack.
