International Women's Day

Every year on March 8, people celebrate International Women’s Day. It is a worldwide day to recognize and celebrate the contributions made by women to society, the economy, culture, politics, and a variety of other fields throughout history. It acknowledges the advancements made in women’s rights and gives them the confidence to keep pursuing equality.

Why Do We Celebrate International Women’s Day

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the ongoing struggle for gender parity. It draws attention to the obstacles and prejudice that women still encounter in regards to leadership roles, equal pay, and educational opportunities.

In addition, the day encourages women all across the world to feel united and supportive of one another. It brings them together to celebrate their joint strength in the fight for equal rights and opportunities, to share stories, and to offer support to one another.

Above all, the day serves as an important forum for honoring the accomplishments of women, bringing attention to current disparities, and promoting the idea of equal rights and opportunities for women in the future.

Theme for the 2024 International Women’s Day

The theme of the 2024 International Women’s Day will be ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ with a particular emphasis on economic disempowerment. That year’s campaign theme, though, is “Inspire Inclusion.”

Inspire Inclusion, the campaign’s slogan, highlights the value of empowerment and diversity in all spheres of society. The United Nations declared March 8 to be International Women’s Day in 1975. On March 19, 1911, though, it was observed for the first time in the US and a few other European nations.

The 1908 labor movement gave rise to the concept of International Women’s Day, when a large number of female garment workers marched through the streets of New York City to demand voting rights, shorter workweeks, and better pay. Leading the charge was the Socialist Party of America.
