Following his retirement from first-class cricket, former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has opened up about a tumultuous incident involving himself and Gautam Gambhir, the celebrated hero of India’s 2011 World Cup victory. The altercation took place in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dressing room during the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, shedding light on previously undisclosed details of the confrontation.
Tiwary, who joined KKR in 2010 after a stint with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), played a significant role in the franchise’s success, notably contributing to their title triumph in 2012. However, his relationship with the team soured after a heated exchange with then-captain Gambhir. Consequently, Tiwary was released from the KKR squad ahead of the 2014 season.

In a recent interview, Tiwary recounted the incident, which occurred during a match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (formerly Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium), where Gambhir allegedly threatened him. Tiwary revealed Gambhir’s words, stating, “He told me, ‘You meet me outside after the match, I’ll see you. You are finished today.'” Tiwary expressed his disappointment with Gambhir’s behavior, emphasizing that the confrontation took place within earshot of journalists at the stadium.
Despite the rift, Tiwary expressed regret over the altercation, acknowledging his typically positive rapport with senior players. He lamented the tarnishing of his reputation due to the incident, highlighting his previous amicable relationship with Gambhir. Tiwary recalled their collaboration during their time at KKR, where they would discuss team selections and strategies together. However, the fallout from the confrontation hindered any further progress in their relationship.

Reflecting on the incident, Tiwary expressed remorse for his role in the altercation, emphasizing his usual respect for senior players.
