After clashes erupted between Congress workers and Assam police during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Guwahati, Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has instructed the state police to file a case against Rahul Gandhi. Sarma accused Gandhi of “provoking the crowd” when Congress workers were prevented from entering Guwahati.
Expressing his disapproval, Sarma stated, “These actions are not in line with Assamese culture. We are a peaceful state, and such ‘naxalite tactics’ are completely foreign to our culture. I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to file a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd, using the footage you posted as evidence,” Sarma wrote on X.

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi on Twitter, Sarma reshared a post by Congress featuring Rahul Gandhi addressing the crowd, writing, “kya aadmi hai yeh, karyakram Meghalya mai thi lekin gaali galoch Assam mai kar raha hai (What a guy! The event was in Meghalaya, but he’s causing a ruckus in Assam).”

Background
Around 5,000 Congress workers, led by Rahul Gandhi, were prevented from attempting to enter Guwahati during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The clash resulted in party workers breaking police barriers, leading to a lathi charge by the police to disperse the crowd.
Addressing a gathering near the Guwahati border, Rahul Gandhi asserted that while Congress workers would never break the rules and disrupt law and order, it didn’t imply weakness. He declared, “Assam CM, the Union Home Minister, and the PM can break the rules, but we (Congress) would never do such a thing. However, this doesn’t mean that we are weak. Congress workers are ‘Babbar Sher’.”
