Bihar Govt To Disburse Rs 2 Lakh To 94 Lakh Families; Check Out Eligibility Criterias

Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the Bihar government led by Nitish Kumar has made a significant move. In order to provide financial aid, the government has passed a proposal to assist Rs 2 lakh each to over 94 families. The distribution will be conducted based on the recently conducted cast census.

When was the decision taken?

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, which was passed with 18 other proposals. Consequently, Rs 2 lakh will be provided to 94,33,312 families belonging to financially weak backgrounds, under the Bihar Smal Entrepreneur Scheme.

Having finalized the procedures and identified 62 small industries slated to receive the allocated funds, the state government is set to swiftly roll out the scheme.

How to avail the scheme?

To enrol in this initiative, individuals must submit their applications online. The eligibility criteria for availing of the scheme’s benefits is that the monthly income of qualifying families should not exceed Rs 6,000.

The government will disburse the scheme’s money in three instalments, out of which the initial instalment will comprise 25%, the second instalment will consist of 50%, and the remaining 25% will be allocated in the third instalment.

What does the survey indicate?

As per the survey results, over 42% of families belonging to Scheduled Castes in Bihar are categorized as poor, whereas the poverty rate is 25% among those from the General category. Families from Scheduled Tribes with a poverty rate of 42.70% were also highlighted.

The Bihar government disclosed the initial findings of the caste survey on October 2 last year, followed by the release of the second part of the data on November 7.

The survey indicates that Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) together make up more than 60% of the state’s total population, while the upper castes constitute approximately 10%.
