The Supreme Court has intervened to halt the potential arrest of Union Minister of State for Home, Nishith Pramanik. The court issued a stay on the arrest until the next hearing, responding to an application filed by Pramanik in the High Court.
Pramanik, formerly associated with the TMC, faced accusations in connection with a 2018 incident during the Panchayat elections, where a person was injured by a bullet.
The court had issued a warrant in 2022 based on the charge sheet, putting the threat of arrest on him. Recently, the Calcutta High Court’s Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench denied his anticipatory bail plea, a decision Pramanik has challenged in the Supreme Court.
Pramanik, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for the Dinhata constituency in Cooch Behar, holds the dual roles of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports in the Government of India.
