Delhi Metro

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reissued tenders for the transfer of operations of several metro corridors, such as the Red Line and the Green Line, to private entities. The initial Red Line tender process, which commenced in October of the previous year, faced a pause due to technical reasons. Subsequently, on January 2, DMRC reopened the bids for the Red Line and initiated the tender process for the Green Line.

The Red Line connects Rithala to Shaheed Sthal New Bus Stand Ghaziabad, while the Green Line extends from Kirti Nagar to Inderlok and Bahadurgarh, covering a distance of 64.2 kilometres across 52 stations.

Moreover, DMRC has put forth tenders for private entities to manage the Violet Line, which runs from Kashmiri Gate to Ballabgarh. Presently, the Yellow Line, spanning from Samaypur Badli to Millenium City Centre Gurugram, remains the sole corridor operated by a private firm.

The expectation is that private agencies will take over metro operations on these lines by October-November 2024. DMRC has allocated approximately Rs 65 crore for this initiative. The project encompasses a six-year contract for private entities to oversee metro operations. This involves various responsibilities such as staff recruitment and training, which includes hiring 221 drivers for the Red Line and 143 drivers for the Green Line.
