This summit marks its return after a five-year hiatus and was originally conceived by Modi during his tenure leading the state. Over time, it evolved into a key governmental initiative, serving as a platform for international engagement with governments and businesses to drive investments into Gujarat. The summit’s success contributed to shaping the narrative around the Gujarat growth model, ultimately aiding Modi’s ascent to national power in 2014. However, while Gujarat stands as one of India’s largest economies, debates persist about its suitability as a replicable model for development.
