Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the contributions of Indian workers abroad during a visit to a labour camp in Mina Abdullah, Kuwait. The visit, part of his historic tour to the West Asian nation, underscored the government’s commitment to the welfare of its diaspora.
The labour camp, home to around 1,500 Indians from various states, became the setting for a heartfelt interaction. Modi inquired about the workers’ well-being and highlighted welfare initiatives launched by his administration over the last decade.
Engaging with a worker from Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister emphasized how affordable internet has enabled families to stay connected. “Do you speak to your family regularly through video calls?” he asked, drawing attention to India’s digital revolution.
Modi’s vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ resonated throughout his address. He stressed the initiative’s focus on better connectivity for Indian workers abroad, ensuring their contributions to the nation remain impactful.

A welder from Bihar thanked the Prime Minister for inaugurating the Nalanda University campus and praised his relentless efforts for national development. Modi replied warmly, “You work hard for your family. I, too, work for mine — 140 crore Indians.”
The Prime Minister highlighted transformative schemes like PM Awas Yojana, Har Ghar Nal Yojana, and Swachh Bharat Mission, which have uplifted countless lives. He commended the workers’ global reputation for honesty and dedication, calling them ambassadors of India’s work ethic.
“Your remittances make India stronger,” Modi said, emphasizing their pivotal role in the country’s growth.
The visit also held emotional significance. It followed the tragic fire in June at a Mangaf housing facility, which claimed the lives of several Indian workers. Modi recalled the swift response from the Indian government and ongoing efforts to enhance safety for expatriates.
India and Kuwait’s 2021 agreement to protect Indian domestic workers formed the backdrop of this visit, reaffirming the government’s dedication to safeguarding its citizens abroad.
“Whenever India achieves something great, your happiness multiplies,” Modi concluded, honoring the workers for their sacrifices and dedication.
