
United States Vice President JD Vance arrived in India on Monday morning for his first official visit to the country.
Accompanied by his Indian-origin wife Usha Vance, their children, and senior US administration officials, Vice President Vance landed at Palam airport to a warm welcome.
His four-day visit, from April 21 to 24, is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between India and the United States.
Ahead of his arrival, hoardings featuring Vice President Vance were put up near Palam airport.
The visit has garnered significant attention as it marks a new chapter in India-US strategic relations under the Biden administration.
Meeting With PM Modi Scheduled
Vice President Vance is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday evening.
Their formal meeting is set for 6:30 pm at the Prime Minister’s official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. The leaders are expected to focus on expanding economic, trade, and defence cooperation.
Family Visits To Jaipur And Agra Planned
Following his official engagements in Delhi, Vance will travel with his family to Jaipur on Tuesday.
On April 23, the delegation will visit Agra, where preparations are underway at the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Taj Mahal.
The Vance family will tour the monument, following in the footsteps of previous US dignitaries, including President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, who visited in 2020.
Ancestral Village Of Usha Vance Eager For Visit
In Andhra Pradesh, the village of Vadluru in West Godavari district, the ancestral home of Usha Vance (née Chilukuri), is buzzing with excitement.
Residents hope the Vance family will make a stop in the village during their visit.
Locals have expressed pride in Usha Vance’s achievements and eagerly await the possibility of welcoming her back.
MEA Highlights Importance Of Vance’s Visit
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called the visit crucial for strengthening India-US relations.
During a media briefing last Thursday, he said, “We have a comprehensive strategic global partnership. Obviously, we will discuss all relevant issues.”
Jaiswal also confirmed that bilateral discussions would cover potential trade agreements. “We are talking to the US side so that a bilateral trade agreement can be done,” he added.
The visit, according to the MEA, is expected to further enhance collaboration on shared global and regional challenges.
JD Vance Concludes Italy Visit Before Arriving In India
Prior to his India trip, Vice President Vance completed a three-day visit to Italy. He arrived in Rome on Friday and held bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
On Saturday, he met with Vatican officials, including Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State. Vance concluded the visit on Easter Sunday after an audience with Pope Francis.
Departure Scheduled For April 24
Vice President JD Vance will conclude his India visit on Thursday, April 24, departing from the country at 6:40 am.
His trip reflects deepening ties between the world’s two largest democracies and aims to build on shared priorities in trade, security, and cultural exchange.
