The United States has strengthened its efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz while aiming to preserve uninterrupted global oil supplies during its ongoing conflict with Iran.
The White House stated that its strategy prioritises the defence of essential energy routes that underpin the global economy.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that US forces are concentrating on weakening Iran’s capacity to interfere with maritime traffic through the vital corridor.
“Our military also remains laser focused on eliminating the regime’s threat to the free flow of energy through the Strait of Hormuz,” she emphasised.
As part of this campaign, US forces launched attacks on Iranian military infrastructure positioned along the strait’s coastline.
During recent operations, powerful munitions were used to destroy underground storage sites housing anti-ship missiles and mobile launch platforms.
The White House reported that these operations have significantly reduced Iran’s maritime capabilities.
Officials said they eliminated over 140 naval vessels, including those capable of laying mines in shipping lanes.
Leavitt stated that these operations aim to ensure safe passage for commercial shipping. He added that they are steadily reducing Iran’s ability to threaten merchant vessels.
Despite ongoing progress, US officials acknowledged that regular tanker movement through the strait has yet to fully resume.
Leavitt indicated, “I don’t have a specific timeline for you today, but it’s obviously something the administration is working towards as quickly as we can.”
In parallel with military action, the US administration is implementing policy steps to stabilise global energy markets and manage price volatility. These include financial support mechanisms and regulatory adjustments designed to sustain oil flows.
Leavitt stated that the administration has introduced measures such as affordable political risk insurance for tankers. It has also introduced temporary waivers to ease supply constraints.
Leavitt also highlighted collaboration with international partners. This includes releasing additional oil supplies into the market.
Within the United States, temporary regulatory changes have been introduced to boost fuel supply. These include expanded permissions for gasoline sales and greater flexibility in fuel blending standards.
The White House said, “The administration is coming up with creative new solutions by the day to keep the price of oil stable.”
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, remains a vital global energy chokepoint. It facilitates a large share of oil and gas transportation.
Any disruption in this region can quickly impact international markets, particularly major importers like India.
The US continues to pursue a dual approach combining military operations and economic strategies to secure energy routes. Ensuring stability in global oil supply remains a central objective as regional tensions continue.
