Iran’s parliamentary leadership has cautioned that access through the Strait of Hormuz could face restrictions if tensions with Washington escalate further.
Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran may tighten control over the vital shipping route in response to continued US naval measures. His comments followed remarks by US President Donald Trump, indicating that American restrictions in the region would remain in place.
In a statement shared on social media, Ghalibaf suggested that maritime traffic would operate strictly under Iranian oversight, warning that continued pressure from the United States could lead to limited access. He indicated that Iranian authorities may confine vessel movements to specific approved routes.
The remarks appeared to contrast with earlier comments from Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who had said commercial shipping would continue uninterrupted during the current ceasefire period. He noted that coordinated arrangements linked to the temporary truce maintain safe passage.
The United States, however, has signalled no immediate rollback. President Trump reiterated that the naval blockade would stay in effect until a broader agreement with Iran takes effect. He expressed confidence that talks could conclude soon.
Rejecting the US stance, Ghalibaf dismissed American claims of progress, arguing that outcomes would be determined by developments on the ground rather than public statements. He also accused Trump of making multiple inaccurate assertions, without detailing them.
