ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Woman During Immigration Operation In Minneapolis

A US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good during a federal immigration operation in south Minneapolis on Wednesday morning, triggering sharp political disputes over enforcement methods.

Federal authorities, including President Donald Trump, defended the agent’s actions, claiming he acted in self-defence after Good allegedly used her vehicle to threaten officers.

ICE described the incident as a violent attack and termed it an ‘act of domestic terrorism’, stating that officers feared for their lives.

Local officials, however, rejected this narrative. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, after reviewing video footage, called the self-defence explanation garbage and criticised the federal account as misleading.

Witnesses said Good’s vehicle was stationary when the agent fired three shots through the driver’s window. Video footage shows the SUV moving forward only as shots were fired, ultimately crashing into a parked car.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz urged residents not to accept the federal account and promised a ‘full, fair, and expeditious investigation’. He activated the state’s Emergency Operations Centre and warned the National Guard to prepare for potential unrest while appealing for peaceful protests.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI are leading the investigation, with Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty pushing for local transparency.

The shooting drew criticism from Democratic lawmakers. Representative Ilhan Omar condemned the killing as ‘unconscionable and reprehensible’, while Congresswoman Betty McCollum accused the administration of fostering division and called for ICE to halt operations in Minnesota.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, however, defended the agent, citing a rise in vehicle-ramming attacks on federal officers.

The incident comes amid ICE’s largest-ever immigration enforcement operation, which has intensified confrontations between federal agents, local authorities, and protesters in multiple US cities.
