US Congress Certifies Trump Winner Of 2024 Presidential Election

The US Congress on Monday officially certified Donald Trump’s victory in the November 2024 presidential election.

Trump Victory

The US Congress on Monday officially certified Donald Trump’s victory in the November 2024 presidential election. The certification process proceeded peacefully, marking a stark contrast to the violent disruption in 2021 when Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol.

Vice-President Kamala Harris, presiding over the joint session, certified the results on a snowy day. She confirmed her own loss as the Democratic nominee. Trump secured 312 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 required majority. Harris received 226 votes. J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate, also earned 312 votes for Vice-President.

“This announcement of the state of the vote by the President of the Senate shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons elected President and Vice-President,” Harris declared.

The certification occurred exactly four years after Trump supporters attempted to disrupt Congress during Joe Biden’s victory declaration. In 2021, rioters stormed the Capitol, forcing lawmakers to hide. Five people died in the aftermath.

Trump’s handling of the 2020 transition broke norms, including skipping Biden’s inauguration. This year, Biden stated he plans to attend Trump’s swearing-in on January 20.

Trump’s Response On Truth Social

Trump has not directly acknowledged his earlier loss but commented on the current transition on Truth Social. He criticized Biden’s executive orders and vowed to reverse them, saying, “We will become a Nation of Common Sense and Strength. MAGA!!!”

The oath of office will take place on January 20, marking Trump’s return to the White House.
