The United States has issued a cautionary message to Iran, urging it to refrain from retaliatory actions following Israel’s recent targeted strikes.
The White House confirmed on Wednesday that any Iranian response to these developments would be met with US support for Israel’s right to defend itself.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated, “Iran should not respond to Israel’s retaliation. They should not. If they choose to do so, we will support Israel in defending itself. But Iran should not respond to Israel’s retaliation.”
The situation unfolded after Israel conducted a series of airstrikes on Saturday, which Israeli officials described as precise attacks on military assets within Iran.
This response followed an October 1st ballistic missile assault reportedly attributed to Iranian forces.
Iranian defense units claimed that their intercept systems limited the damage from the Israeli strikes.
In Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi condemned the Israeli actions, calling for accountability.
Addressing international envoys, Araghchi asserted that Israel and its allies bear full responsibility for what he described as aggressive incursions on Iranian soil. He emphasized that Iran reserves its legal right to respond while underscoring a careful approach in any potential actions.
As diplomatic channels remain active, many continue to closely monitor developments in hopes of averting further hostilities.
