United Russia Leads Russia’s State Duma Election With 57.83 Per Cent Votes

Preliminary results show Russia’s ruling United Russia party leading the election for the ninth State Duma with 57.83 per cent of the vote.

Central Election Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova announced the figures on Monday after officials counted 95.18 per cent of ballots.

The Communist Party of the Russian Federation followed with 13.81 per cent, while the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia secured 8.98 per cent. New People received 7.96 per cent, while A Just Russia garnered 4.96 per cent.

The election, held from Friday to Sunday, recorded a 59.32 per cent turnout, up from 51.72 per cent in 2021.

The State Duma has 450 seats. Voters elect 225 deputies through party lists and another 225 through single-mandate constituencies. Ten political parties contested the election.

Pamfilova said authorities expect to announce the final results on Friday. The preliminary count indicates United Russia could secure 355 seats, according to election officials.

Pamfilova said Russia’s electoral infrastructure faced more than 100 million potential cyber threats during the voting period.

She said official election platforms suffered large-scale DDoS attacks and targeted server intrusions. Authorities detected attempts to exploit system vulnerabilities and disrupt telecommunications infrastructure.

Pamfilova said national security systems filtered the malicious activity and recorded no successful breaches. She added that investigations linked attacks on remote electronic voting mainly to overseas sources, including attempts using spoofed Russian IP addresses.

She criticised Western efforts to disrupt Russia’s electoral process and accused Western lawyers and institutions of seeking legal loopholes and spreading disinformation.
