Guterres stressed that racism continues to persist across societies, regions, and nations.
Antonio Guterres noted that its roots remain embedded in the legacies of colonialism, enslavement, and systemic oppression.
He warned that historical injustices fuel inequality and drive discriminatory laws, exclusion, and violent conflict.
Antonio Guterres highlighted the role of modern technology, noting that digital platforms amplify hate speech and spread misinformation.
He added that these platforms reinforce harmful stereotypes that often lead to real-world abuse.
Call For Global Unity
Describing unity and action as the only effective remedy, Guterres urged governments, institutions, businesses, and communities to work collectively.
He emphasised the need to protect dignity, justice, equality, and human rights for all individuals.
Antonio Guterres called for universal ratification and full implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
He urged adherence to the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, marking its 25th year and outlining steps to combat racism and intolerance.
Guterres insisted that the global community must take a firm stand every day to uphold inclusion and belonging.
He reiterated that the International Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1966, serves as a reminder to eliminate racism in all its forms.
