The surrender took place near the village of Komarovka, a representative from the Russian security forces told Xinhua news agency. The Ukrainian soldiers reportedly initiated contact through the Telegram channel FREE_SOLDIER2022 prior to their surrender.

The Ukrainian military launched an offensive in southern Russia’s Kursk region on August 6, which has led to ongoing clashes. The Russian Defence Ministry reported on Friday that Ukraine has sustained significant losses, including 2,860 military personnel and 41 tanks in the Kursk region.

In response to the escalating situation, a mandatory evacuation was ordered for all residents of the Glushkovsky district in Kursk. Acting Governor Alexei Smirnov announced the evacuation on his official Telegram channel earlier on Thursday.
